I was about 8 years old when my mum bought me a journal. It was from then that I started bringing my reflections to life through the written word. In the 18 years that have followed, writing has been my preffered form of expression, my consolation and my passion through adolescence, soul searching, embracing Islam, motherhood, widowhood and spiritual growth. Writing began as something very personal and private in my early years, but after the death of my late husband, may Allah subhanahu wa- ta’ala (swt) have mercy on him, it became something that I wanted to share with others. Through sharing my experiences and reflections via first blog, http://www.beyondiddah.com I began my path of healing and self discovery.

Who is Umm Summi?

20374530_487088101628411_8719550340885172274_nI don’t really know how to answer that other than using a bunch of labels…Most importantly I am a Muslimah. I am veiled and liberated. A wife and partner. A mother. A daughter. I am a revivalist of Islamic family values. An active advocate of empowering female youth in our community. A writer. A speaker. A learner. A student. But, I am much more than labels.

I am today very different as an individual to the person I was when I began this journey, from a bleeding heart to an open heart. It is my intention to invite others to deeply reflect on their experiences in life in order to reconnect with their ultimate purpose, that is, to know Allah swt.

[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded  (Quran Sahih International, 38:29)

So, I invite you on my path of reflection, learning and growth, insha’ Allah.

May Allah swt guide us all to what is good in this life and the Hereafter.
